Sustainable alpaca fashion from Peru – short distances, big impact
The journey my clothes take from Peru is not only exciting, but fortunately also short and transparent. Although the country is far away, I ensure that the transport routes are as direct as possible, avoiding unnecessary detours.
I source my high-quality alpaca wool directly from renowned knitting mills in Arequipa , a city known for its first-class wool production. The alpacas there live in complete freedom in the Andes and are kept exclusively for wool production—they are not farmed animals for meat production.
After shearing, the wool is gently dyed in a small studio in Arequipa. The owner collects the wool directly from the knitting mill and processes it by hand – using only natural dyes, without any chemical additives .
The journey then continues to the knitters in Abancay, Apurímac, Huancavelica, Huánuco, and Junín —all traditional craft villages in the Andes. Here, the sweaters are crafted with the utmost care before being packaged and shipped to Germany.
